How to Play (Further Information Provided in In-Game Menu)

  1. Navigate to our website above.
  2. Select either "Start" or "Colorblind Start" for colorblind users.
  3. The player starts as a fish, the beginning of major vertebrate evolution, with omnidirectional movement. 4a. Mouse/Keyboard: Use WASD or ARROW Keys to move around the platformer map. 4b. Touchscreen: Use on-screen buttons or physical joystick to move around the platformer map.
  • Each level will have different movement mechanics that must be understood through playtime.
  1. Collect bananas/fruits as instructed by instructions in the top-left corner of the screen.
  • Collecting bananas/fruits in the wrong order will result in failing the level. The level may be reset with the ENTER key.
  1. After each number of bananas collected, the player will morph into a new, but similar, creature.
  2. After collecting all the necessary bananas in the correct order in a level, the player will be moved to another map and morph into a completely different creature, advancing through the evolutionary timeline.
  3. Completing all the levels successfully will result in a win screen, signifying the successful end of the game.

Motivation

Our theme cards drawn for the Horizons Nexus hackathon were the Joker (Wild Card), Fish, Banana, Order, and Morph. What better way to demonstrate these cards than through the evolution of organisms of the earth! Introducing Bananlution We wanted to make a game as it would be an engaging project that people could enjoy. To integrate these themes, we decided to make a platformer game where you begin as a FISH, eating BANANAS in a specified ORDER to MORPH into more evolutionarily advanced organisms. It's just like evolution in the real world! (! (trust) Different organisms will have different movement mechanics, such as swimming, swinging, crawling, and jumping..
