Dagger was an ARG hosted during Fallout for approximately 150 participants. It was organised by @ayo, @scharonowmark, @filyentity, @kavyansh and @SwiftDust.
A small video as a sneak-peek of the edit we're making!
Take a look at the rest of the repositories too, to see other code we used for the ARG.

It all started around two months ago with a message from @Tanuki, who asked us if we could develop an ARG for Fallout. We were obviously very honoured, but we didn't have a lot of time. Besides, Tanishq himself couldn't help. First we struggled with finding a theme, but in the end we settled on someone who wanted to hack Hack Club. It fitted very well in the general theme of the hackathon too!
Fast-forward to some two weeks before the event. We had a lot of puzzles designed, but we still needed to piece together the story. And we were quite running out of time. On top of that, we figured out the organisers weren't properly informed so we had to significantly downscale the event. On the day before the event I had to work the entire day until 1am to get it done. I couldn't go to Shenzhen, so communication with the people there was quite hard. This is probably our biggest learning point.
Luckily, the ARG went very well and everyone enjoyed it! Here's a short story from a co-org:
It began with the message leading to the USB containing two partitions. One had the right file with the password (
devious-furry) and the other an Indian electrical contacts manufacturer brochure. So, there were basically two groups in Shenzhen that formed. One group tried to use brain and knowledge to solve the puzzles and the other Fable 5. The message lead to the SSH terminal containing the SSH server credentials, and from there on they had a hard time finding the VM password (I helped a bit due to the original time constraint of one hour). Finally, the group came to the message that they should find @arc who was in disguise with my green hat. They needed to tell him the password (dagger) and he would send them to me with the final password (boykisser). They managed to finish the ARG within seconds(!) of the finish.
