The Last Encore is a short psychological choice-based visual novel built with Ren'Py that follows Luna, a beloved idol preparing for what appears to be another sold-out performance as subtle cracks begin to fracture her glittering reality. The story unfolds through purely narrative-driven choices with no stat systems, where seemingly cosmetic decisions, such as selecting stage outfits or symbolic accessories, gradually shift the tone, color palette, sound design, and environmental details, leading to one of two endings centered on reality versus delusion. What begins in a warm pink dressing room with bubbly idol music slowly unravels into distorted audio, flickering mirrors, sterile hospital imagery, and cold grey-blue desaturation, exploring themes of identity, performance, dissociation, and the fragility of perception. The project is developed entirely in Ren’Py using scripted scene direction, branching dialogue, layered audio transitions, background and sprite swaps, visual effects such as color grading and flicker cues, and conditional choice flags to control atmosphere and ending paths, making it a compact but stylistically focused narrative prototype that emphasizes mood, symbolism, and psychological tension through engine-driven presentation rather than complex gameplay systems.
