SmartCart is a mobile app that helps users shop smarter, eat healthier, and cut food waste using built-in Gemini AI. Before shopping, users enter household size and activity level to estimate weekly calorie needs. After shopping, users scan their receipt. Gemini logs each item securely in a Firebase database, tracks total calories, estimates shelf life, and checks if your household can consume the food in time. If you’ve overbought, SmartCart alerts you, and suggests recipes and provides food expiry reminders. We used Google technologies like the Gemini Developer API and Firebase. Using Google AI Studio, we trained Gemini by fine-tuning our custom prompts. The app was built in Android Studio and is ready to launch on the Google Play Store. We developed on Chromebooks using Google Workspace and attended Google DevFest Singapore. There, we attended workshops and lectures by Google engineers to understand Gemini AI Studio.io.
