Made for GWC SIP's game jam, for the brief "what hope means to me".
Hope, to me, means believing things can get better. I wanted to capture that feeling by making a game where helping others and caring for the environment end up bringing colour and life back to a tiny bug habitat (inside a log).
I made this game by learning p5.js through GWC's SIP tutorials, and then applying that knowledge!
A challenge I faced while making this was ensuring that the narrative was clear and the player’s goal was obvious, so the player was never stuck on what to do next. I overcame this by adding dialogue popups and moving the to-do list to a permanent box at the top.
You play as a little caterpillar, restoring hope to your town, by helping others, cleaning up litter, and bringing colour back to the streets!
