I built a modern Monopoly Electronic Banking system with ESP32, NFC and a touchscreen
I’ve been working on a project to recreate the classic Monopoly Electronic Banking game using modern hardware.
Instead of paper money, the system uses NFC cards for players and properties, and a touchscreen to manage the game.
Main features:
-
ESP32-S3 based
-
PN532 NFC reader with Mifare Classic 1K cards
-
3.2" touchscreen dice simulator
-
MAX98357A audio for sound effects
-
BQ25895 charger + 18650 battery
-
supports 2–4 players
-
automatic money tracking, rent, houses, events, etc.
Players interact mostly by scanning cards, so the UI stays very simple..
I’m still working on the firmware and hardware, but the system is already functional.

Hey I just got home from work and get some rest 😪
I think they sold this as an actual version of the game about 20 years ago.
Still cool though.
EDIT: found a post about different versions: https://www.monopolyland.com/monopoly-electronic-banking-editions/ . First released in 2006. Damn I'm old.
so cool!
would be funny if players had to tap their phones to pay
