This is a wearable LED nametag made from three 8×8 LED matrices driven by MAX7219 chips and a microcontroller. It can display scrolling text, animations, or patterns, and it’s fully programmable.
I’m building it mostly for fun and to wear at events like FRC events or whenever, but also to learn more about PCB design, LED drivers, and embedded programming. Made possible by Hack Club's Blueprint program :D
To use this nametag, first plug it into a PC or laptop. Next, take the firmware.c file and use that as a base to create the scrolling text you want to display. Finally, flash your firmware to the nametag and turn it on!
Final price: About $57.25
