Honkai Star Rail uses a turn-based combat system where characters and enemies take turns based on their speed statistics. Each character has an action value that determines when they can act, and faster characters will get more turns over the course of a battle. During your turn, you can choose to use a basic attack, deploy a skill that costs skill points, or unleash a powerful ultimate ability when the energy bar is full.
The combat system also features a weakness break mechanic where attacking enemies with their elemental weakness will deplete their toughness bar. Once the toughness bar is broken, the enemy becomes stunned and takes additional damage, and different elements cause different break effects. Strategic team building involves considering character elements, paths, and abilities to create synergies that can efficiently break enemies and maximize damage output during your turns.
