read me!!!

Hi!! This is a temporary popup to explain my YSWS idea a little further or the reasoning behind it. Basically, this YSWS is somewhat a continuation or V2 of Construct (in that its focused on CAD), but there are definitely differences!

Throughout my time at Hack Club, I’ve noticed how vibrant and diverse the community is, and I especially love that everyone in Hack Club has interests and passions in different niches within or outside of technology: some I’ve encountered include art, photography, architecture, fashion, music, editing, animation, interior design / design in general, etc. I’m also really interested in industrial design and manufacturing, and it’s definitely something I want to pursue in college and beyond!

This would be a great way to reach out to Hack Club’s (many, many) artists, and also a beginner-friendly YSWS, and also something I feel like girls from the Athena Initiative would enjoy! Not to be stereotypical or anything (sob) but as a girl myself I feel like a art/design centered YSWS that still has technical elements like this one seems like a lot more fun but less intimidating way to get into tech/CAD.

So, this YSWS was my best attempt to combine these interests while still maintaining quality. Specifically, I want to do outreach for this YSWS to bring in people with passions in architecture, fashion, etc to help more people join Hack Club! I actually asked some of my friends outside of Hack Club who have interests in these subjects for advice on what type of prizes or YSWS program they would do, and I think they’d definitely be interested in participating in this YSWS if it runs. It’d be also be interesting to do outreach and reach out to youtubers/content creators like youtuber @mxddsie and some tiktokers/insta influencers I watch like @jessie.garcia27 and @innovativethanh !

weekly challenge(s):

- create a fidget toy/stress reliever 3d model, get a fidget like needohs or slime!
- spend 20-30 hrs on a 3d model, get a custom plushie of it shipped!

how it works

1. pick a track/fruit

choose your fruit! in this YSWS, you will learn how to use CAD in different types of projects: from fashion, architecture, 3d rendered art/gfx's, video editing, web development, and so much more.

2. create a project

create projects in your track! see these logs/guides to help you step outside of your comfort zone and potentially make projects in a track you've never thought about before.

3. log your hours

make sure to log your hours coded using Hackatime or Lapse! you can spend up to 30% of shipped hours doing art, and up to 30% of shipped hours using AI.

4. ship it!

to count a project as "shipped", it must have a deployed, experienceable link/.stl file and a open-source Github repository link, with regular/hourly commits to Github

5. get prizes!!!!

What is Hack Club?
Hack Club is a community of teens from around the world who code together, attend hackathons, and share interests in technology, art, games, and more! Join the Slack if you're a teen!
Who is eligible? What if I'm a beginner?
Any teenager between 13-18 years old is eligible! Blender is available towards anyone, including beginnerings, artists, editors, fashion designers, gamedevs, architects, ANYONE!! We have guides for you to learn from as well.
How do I start?
See the above steps! Go to the guides page for some project ideas and guides on how to start creating! Make sure you are tracking your hours via Hackatime or Lapse.
What does “shipped” mean?
Your project needs a deployed, experienceable link, or .stl file, as well as an open-source Git repository.
How do I get prizes?
You get prizes based on the amount of hours you ship while working on projects, which you can spend in the shop! Projects that you spend 10+ hrs on are eligible for potential hour boosts. You can also earn bonus hours/prizes like a custom sticker sheet/custom shirt for completing all fruit tracks, or prizes and boosts for completing the weekly challenges.
